Lynnville Friends Lead Pastor Job Description
The mission of Lynnville Friends Church in Lynnville, Iowa is “Reaching, Engaging and Preparing hearts for Christ. We are seeking a Lead Pastor who has a heart for Jesus and will equip this body of believers to live for Jesus Christ through Biblical teaching from God’s unchanging Word. We believe in solid Bible teaching with application to current life situations.
Our pastor should be a leader others will want to follow, both in our church and our community. The body of a church is made up of many different members, each of which have something to offer. A church cannot function well without a leader who develops willing followers. A good shepherd loves his flock and leads them gently.
Lynnville Friends Church has a long and rich history of devotion and worship to our Lord. Our church was organized in 1851 and has faithfully served many of the small towns that surround the Lynnville community. We are a member of Iowa Yearly Meeting of Friends and are Evangelical Friends with a passion for God and compassion for people.
Lynnville Friends is not your typical Friends Church and are made up of people from all sorts of backgrounds including many Reformed and Christian Reformed Backgrounds. A good shepherd knows his flock and understands how to lead them to see God’s will for them, thus keeping them together for deep, meaningful and unified service to our Lord.
In addition to our Sunday morning gatherings, we have a strong Wednesday night program including Bible studies, Jr. and Sr. high programs, along with our Kids 4nChrist program. Along with our church building we have a youth center with a youth room, basketball court and full kitchen, and a parsonage all located on the same property.
Position Responsibilities
• Should live a life with Jesus as their example, preferring others before themselves and with a spirit of humility and compassion.
• Should keep in contact with committee chairpersons in regard to business and provide leadership and direction to the Elders, the committees, and the congregation at large.
• In charge of Sunday morning and special services as well as being involved in midweek activities. Help and work with those planning weekly worship services.
• Call on church members and attenders when they are in the hospital. Also make attempts to visit community members and family members when requested.
• Will make calls on shut-ins and the elderly on a regular basis, and when requested.
• Counseling is an important part of ministry, and the pastor should be available to counsel with anyone in need.
• Perform pre-marriage counseling to couples who seek to be married in the church.
