Pastoral Job Description
Overview
The pastor fills the role of a Biblical preacher/teacher, shepherd and servant leader.
The pastor shall have a passion for Jesus that is contagious.
Preaching/ Teaching
The pastor is expected to be in charge of Sunday morning and special services, and to be involved in midweek activities. Teaching Sunday school is not mandatory, but the pastor is expected to visit the various classes occasionally if he is not teaching a class.
Hospital Visitation
The pastor is expected to call on church members and attenders when they are in the hospital. He should also make attempts to visit community members and family members when requested.
Home Visitation
It is expected that the pastor will make calls on shut-ins and the elderly on a regular basis, and when requested make visits to members and attenders. The pastor along with an Elder should try and visit with members and attenders at least once every two years to keep abreast of their lives and concerns.
Administrative Duties
The administrative duties of the pastor, keeping in contact with committee chairpersons in regard to business, providing leadership and direction to the Elders, the committees, and the congregation at large. The pastor should give attention to the organization of the church to make sure that information is getting to the congregation and committees. The pastor is to help and work with those planning the weekly worship services.
Counseling
Counseling is an important part of ministry, and the pastor should be available to counsel with anyone in need. The pastor should also be aware of his abilities and limits in regard to counseling and should be willing to refer people to competent Christian counseling professionals should a matter be beyond his expertise.
The church also expects that when the pastor is counseling alone with a member of the opposite sex, another person be in attendance or nearby. This will avoid any unfortunate incidents and help protect the integrity of all parties.
The pastor is expected to perform pre-marriage counseling to all couples who seek to be married in the church.
