General Responsibilities/Authorities:
Gospel Proclamation:
• The Lead Pastor’s joy will be to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and administer the sacraments so that all are called to turn to Him in ever-increasing faith, hope, and love. The Lead Pastor will be the primary preacher for regular worship services and special worship services as scheduled in agreement with the Elders.
• Root the groups and ministries he oversees in biblical and confessional teaching.
• Encourage discipleship and evangelism among all members and friends of the congregation.
• Equip the staff and the church for reaching the Crown Point community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
• The Lead Pastor’s life will model the church’s vision encouraging people to:
o Radiate God’s love.
o Raise Christ followers.
o Reach one more person for Christ.
Leadership for Strategic Ministry Planning and Execution:
• Lead alongside the Council to determine vision and SMART goals in the areas of strengthening community ties and outreach, congregational involvement, discipleship, and fostering servant leadership.
• Lead the staff in coordinating the work of ministry by:
o Meeting regularly both corporately and individually to ensure that staffing, ministry programs, facilities, and policies are effectively aligned to meet strategic goals.
o Directing staff and volunteer leader activities to clarify and execute objectives.
o Providing ongoing leadership training and ministry training opportunities.
• Participate in meetings of the Council, Elders, Executive Committee, and congregation.
• Participate in church ministry committee meetings, Classis meetings, and denominational board or other denominational meetings as necessary.
Pastoral Care:
• Promote a Christ-like culture where each person is loved and cared for and full participation in the life of the church is valued and encouraged.
• Oversee the pastoral care needs of the congregation and partner with the pastoral staff and Elders in hospital visitation, member visits, counseling, marriages, and funerals.
Staff Supervision and Administration:
• Supervise the office staff and provide direction for effective support functions.
• Maintain efficient and effective lines of communication between the staff and the Council.
• Work with the Executive Committee to review staff compensation and benefits.
• Oversee development of and adherence to church policies and procedures including biweekly staff check-ins, annual reviews, and self-reviews as outlined in the Staff Administration Policy.
Qualifications and Experience:
• A total commitment to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and a desire to live with Him for eternity.
• Master of Divinity degree.
• Ordained minister in the Christian Reformed Church or qualified candidate willing to complete the synodical requirements for full ordination of pastors in the Christian Reformed Church.
• Demonstrated leadership and relational abilities.
• Good communication, administration, and discernment.
• Exhibits personal Godliness, humility, integrity, and a passion to reach others for Christ.
