Title: Director of Children and Youth Ministries
Reports To: Pastor of Teaching and Leadership Last Revised: December 18, 2025
POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Children and Youth Ministries plays a crucial role in nurturing the spiritual growth of children and youth at Westview Church. This full-time position recruits, equips, and empowers the teams who deliver programming for children and youth. The Director of Children and Youth Ministries plans all programming and events with the goal of encouraging our young people to build personal relationships with Jesus. Through this work, these team members introduce, instruct, and nurture children and youth in their Christian faith and in life through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, worship, and service. The Director of Children and Youth Ministries fosters relationships with the children and youth of Westview that spurs personal/spiritual growth and leadership development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Westview’s Mission and Beliefs
• Lives out the mission, vision, and values of Westview
• Understands Westview’s priorities and translates that to the Director of Children and Youth Ministries scope of responsibilities
• Promotes Westview’s Theological Statement and Beliefs
CHILDREN
Children’s Ministry Team Leadership
• Recruits, equips, and empowers the Children’s Ministry Team
Children’s Ministry Planning
• Evaluates, selects, and purchases curriculum
• Provides and maintains supplies, equipment, and materials
• Collaborates with the Children’s Ministry Team to recruit, train, and support volunteers
• Creates Discovery Hour calendar and schedules volunteers
• Maintains database of children involved
• Plans Children’s Ministry special events, including Fall Kick-off Spring Celebration, Christmas Program, and other ‘special’ days
• Coordinates milestone discipleship opportunities with pastoral staff, including Bible Blessings and Sacraments Class
• Coordinates shared space with Westview Church Preschool
• Submits annual budget requests, accountable for department budget usage toward ministry initiatives
Children’s Ministry Delivery
• Provides support, oversight, and accountability for the delivery of children’s programming at Westview, including Nursery, Children’s Worship, Little K, Elementary Discovery Hour, and Vacation Bible School
• Leads Bible Blessing class for students and parents/guardians.
YOUTH
Youth Ministry Team Leadership
• Recruits, equips, and empowers the Youth Ministry Team
Youth Ministry Planning
• Evaluates, selects, and purchases curriculum
• Provides and maintains supplies, equipment, and materials
• Collaborates with the Youth Ministry Team to recruit, train, and support volunteers
• Creates Discovery Hour, Middle School Youth, and High School Youth calendars and schedules volunteers
• Maintains database of youth involved
• Plans Youth Ministry special events, including Fall Kick-off, Christmas Party, Spring Celebration, Retreats, Youth Connection Events, and Service/Mission Projects
• Coordinates milestone discipleship opportunities with pastoral staff, including Basics of the Faith Class and Graduate Recognition
• Submits annual budget requests, accountable for department budget usage toward ministry initiatives
Youth Ministry Delivery
• Provides support, oversight, and accountability for the delivery of youth programming at Westview, including Middle School and High School Discovery Hour, Middle School and High School Youth Group, youth connection/fellowship events, and youth special programming (retreats, service projects, mission trips, etc.)
Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Two-year Associate’s degree, or equivalent work experience
• Passion for and experience working with children and youth
• Demonstrated professional experience and maturity
• Passion for investing in relationships with children and youth
• Shows exceptional attention to detail and strives for excellence while balancing multiple projects at once
• Demonstrates personal initiative and works with minimal guidance or supervision
• Delivers exceptional written and verbal communication
• Quickly adapts to changing priorities
• Experienced with basic software, including Microsoft O365, Google Drive, etc. and comfortable learning new software as required
• Demonstrates the ability to navigate change in a calm, thoughtful, and positive way
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Four-year degree in education is ideal
• Other children or youth ministry experience is strongly preferred
• 5+ years professional experience, ideally in an education, curriculum development, or educational leadership role
• 2+ years of leadership experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, organize, and motivate volunteers is very helpful
• Understanding of child and adolescent development and skill level is helpful
• Friendly, enthusiastic, and flexible team approach is strongly preferred
