❖ POSITION OVERVIEW
• The Temporary Associate Pastor position at West Side Presbyterian Church is a
full-time position. This role has primary responsibility for leading the congregation in our strategic vision to establish youth and young adults in the gospel as they navigate life’s transitions.
❖ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Faithful and innovative implementation among congregation of our shared vision
to establish youth and young adults in the gospel as they navigate the significant
life transitions of these stages in life.
• Creativity and energy around leadership development, especially the strategic
vision of identifying, equipping, and launching leaders of gospel movements.
• Supervising discipleship staff.
• Prayerful encouragement and training of lay leadership around this vision.
• Preaching and teaching in partnership with the Senior Pastor.
❖ GENERAL LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT SKILLS
1. Leadership that prays with and for the congregation.
2. Dedication to study, teach, and preach the Word of God with reverence, creativity and applicability.
3. Diligent and consistent attention, alongside fellow leaders, to aligning all areas of
responsibility with congregational vision.
4. Commitment to extending hospitality and encouragement to those exploring
faith; capacity to comfort and challenge believers in their own discipleship;
maturity in engaging life’s tough questions through scriptural engagement.

❖ ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Be a colleague in ministry among your peers in the Seattle Presbytery and
alongside partners in the gospel at other churches in West Seattle.
❖ INTERACTION AND ENVIRONMENT
Accountable to: The Session of WSPC and the Seattle Presbytery
Reports to and is evaluated annually by: Pastor
Supervises: Family, Youth and Young Adult Staff; Discipleship Associate Director
❖ PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Energy and enthusiasm for a varied work schedule including periodic late nights,
early mornings, or Saturday meetings. Maintain a rhythm of rest and renewal.
❖ EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
• A mature and compelling relationship with Jesus Christ
• Personal characteristics that foster the peace, unity, and purity of the church –
especially humility, grace, integrity, courage, charisma, and humor
• Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and preaching/teaching
• Demonstrated experience as a relationship builder in intergenerational
community, and in diverse socio-economic and cultural contexts
• Experience leading and developing teams in a multi-staff ministry setting
• M.Div. or other graduate work commensurate with ordination standards of the
PC USA
• Proficient in Microsoft applications, familiarity with social media platforms, and
curiosity / openness to employing new technology platforms
This position is designated as Temporary to facilitate a shorter search process that
supports the new mission strategy of the congregation. It is anticipated that this role will
transition to an installed Associate Pastor position in the future.
